Places of Interest of Bhojpur

  • Dalaur:-
  • The village is situated 2-kms east of Jagdishpur and is known as the site of the final battle between Babu Kunwar Singh and the British forces in 1857.
  • Koilwar:-
  • The town lies on the western bank of the River Sone, about 50-kms west of Patna. It is supposed to have a healthy climate.
  • Bibiganj:-
  • The village is situated 6-kms west of Ara on the Ara-Shahpur Road. It has a bridge that is famous as the site of a battle between the British forces and Babu Kunwar Singh in 1857.
  • Masurhi:-
  • The village, which is situated 5-kms east of Jagdishpur, has a 300 years old grave of a Muslim saint Masar Dewan. It is held as sacred by the Muslims.
  • Tar:-
  • Situated about 10-kms northwest of Piro the village derives its name from Tarka, a giantess killed by Lord Rama. There is an old tank in the village that is said to be the wrestling ground of Tarka.
  • Behea:-
  • The tomb of Mahini lies under a pippal tree close to the Behea railway station and is visited by hundreds of worshippers, especially the women.
  • Bisram:-
  • It is said that Lord Mahavira, the 24th Jain Tirthankara, took rest for some time at this place during his wanderings, hence this place is called Bisram (rest). The Jains from every part of the country visit this place throughout the year. The Jain temple here contains an idol of Lord Mahavira. This place is in the Ara town where there are another 45 Jain temples.
  • Masadh:-
  • This village is situated about 9-kms west or rather southwest of Ara town. There is an ancient Jain temple dedicated to Parshwanath and contains eight images, some of which belong to earlier dates as seen from the inscriptions on each of them. The temple was completed in the year 1819 A.D. while some of the eight images belong to 1386 A.D. as per archaeological records.
  • Jagdishpur:-
  • Babu Kunwar Singh, a famous warrior and soldier of independence against the British rulers in 1857 was born here at Jagdishpur. This place lies on the national highway about 35 kilometers from Ara. The house where Babu Kunwar Singh lived has now been converted into a museum. Those swords and other arms etc belonged to Babu Kunwar Singh are now kept on display in this museum.
