The NCC, West Bengal team will take on Mynkhen
Christian Higher Secondary School, Meghalaya in the finals of the All
India Subroto Mukherjee Cup Football Tournament here tomorrow.
The NCC, West Bengal team scored a thrilling win over NCC, North Eastern Region team 2-0 in the first semi-final match played at the Dr Ambedkar Stadium yesterday.
In the other semi-final match the Meghalaya school team overcame Army Boys, Lucknow 1-0.
This year two NCC Teams, ie West Bengal and North East Region (comprising of all Seven N E States) participated in the tournament. NCC, West Bengal had defeated Nagaland 6 to 3 and NCC NER defeated Chandigarh 6 to 4 goals to reach the Semifinal.
The team from NCC, North Eastern Region displayed innate skills at Football, however, it was NCC, Bengal Team which finally clinched the game 2-0.
The Subroto Cup Football tournament was conceived by Air Marshall Subroto Mukherjee and was first conducted by Indian Air Force in 1960. The competitions begin as inter-school tournament at Sub Division, District and State level and the Schools winning the State Tournaments are invited to participate at the National Level in New Delhi. The NCC last lifted the trophy in 2007.
