Mauritius and Bihar to organise 'Bhojpuri festival' every year

Mauritius President Rajkeswur Purryag will pay a one-day visit to Bihar on January six to retrace his roots in his ancestral village in Bihar's Patna district. Purryag will visit Wajidpur village in the Punpun block where his forefathers had once lived. The dignitary will be accorded a grand public reception in his native village where he will interact with distant relatives and their families.
Purryag had enquired from the state government about various details of his ancestral village which were promptly provided to the latter to clear the decks for his visit next week.

Earlier, former Mauritius prime minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam had visited his native village in Bhojpur district in 2008 followed by the visit by Trinidad and Tobago premier Kamla Persad-Bissessar to Bhelupur village in Buxar district this year.

Mauritius and Bihar which share historical bonds have decided to organise 'Bhojpuri festival' every year to keep the language alive.

The festival would be organised jointly by government of Mauritius and Bihar Tourism department and both Mauritius Prime Minister Rajkeshwar Prayag and state Chief Minister Nitish Kumar have consented to holding the festival.About 70 percent of the population of Mauritius is of Indian origin and almost half of them hailed from Bihar.
